About

Alon Moradi is a Persian-Jewish director from Los Angeles. Entering his senior year, Alon is in the process of receiving his BFA from the John Wells Directing Program at Carnegie Mellon’s School of Drama.

He has a special interest in interpreting and revitalizing influential works of the dramatic cannon as well as works of opera and musical theater to craft enduring journeys for new audiences. Alon loves to lead from a place of curiosity and brings a multi-disciplinary approach to his work by pulling inspiration from areas of thought such as philosophy, psychology, literature, and art. Alon also has experience as a vocalist, where he has been afforded the opportunity to sing at Carnegie Hall and do an operatic tour of Italy in the past.

Most recently, Alon was recruited and received a scholarship to be the Directing Apprentice at the Prague Summer Nights festival under the advisory of Garnett Bruce, Mary Duncan, and Erin Ridge. While there in the Czech Republic, he was the Assistant Director for ‘Le Nozze di Figaro’ at the Estates Theater in Prague and Co-Director of an evening of Opera Scenes in the town of Tábor.

While in New York City, Alon has served as a directing intern to Gabriel Barre for the Off-Broadway musical of ‘A Sign of the Times’ at New World Stages, produced by The York Theater. He was directing observer to Jess McLeod for the reading of a new play ‘Asilomar’ as part of Manhattan Theatre Club’s Ted Snowdon Reading Series. Alon was the Assistant Director for the reading of an original musical in development, ‘Sapped!’ directed by Julie Kramer through the Tepper Program at Syracuse University. He was also the Directing and Producing intern at Red Bull Theater this spring. Workshop productions where he provided directing support for Red Bull include: ‘Hamlet’ (dir. Nathan Winklestein in collaboration with the NYU Playwrights Horizons studio), 'The Rover' with Santino Fontana (dir. GT Upchurch), and 'Titus Andronicus’ with Patrick Page (dir. Jesse Berger).

Coming up, Alon will be directing Harold Pinter’s ‘The Dumb Waiter’ for Carnegie Mellon School of Drama’s 2024-2025 Season.
